The Journey Begins In Spiritual Crisis.
(1:5-11)
1:5; I am dark but lovely. O daughters of Jerusalem, Like the tents of Kedar. Like the cutains of Solomon.
I am dark but lovely: The Spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak ( matthew 26:41). The wisdom to be conquered by the affections of God's heart, with your whole heart.
Tents of Kedar: Darkness of the flesh.
Cutains of Solomon: Holy place.
* She realizes that she is full of iniquity. But she also see's that there is grace for her to walk in a path of Holiness. Colossians 3:2-3; So she puts her mind on the things from above, and allows the Lord to purge her into death from this world.
1:6; Do not look upon me, because I am dark, because the sun has tanned me. My mothers sons were angry with me; They made me the keeper of the vineyards, but my own vinyard I have not kept.
Do not look upon me, because i am dark: Rejection; Shame.
Sun: Natural realm.
Tanned: Ashamed by sin that is seen by others.
Mothers sons: Elders of the church; carnal leaders.
They made me the keeper of the vineyards: She is burnt out and overworked by comprimising leaders.
My own vineyards: Her own heart.
* Although she see's the Lord's love for her, condemnation from church leaders hold's her back. She is weighed down by her own iniquity and burnt out on being overworked and having little time for her own heart.
1:7; Tell me, O You whom I love. Where You feed Your flocks, Where You make it rest at noon. For why should I be as one who veils herself. By the flocks of Your companions?
Tell me, O You whom i love: Ephesians 1:17-19; In desperation she cries out to enter in to the deep things of God! Longing for truth and righteousness to set her free.
Where You feed Your flock: Where can I find the knowledge of God?
Veils herself: Speaking of sin and shame in her life as an immature christian. Her desire is to serve close to God, not from a distance.
* Romans 8:1; She won't be held away from the desire of her heart. Crying out (eph 1:17-19). Romans 8:31; Luke 1:37. If God is for us, who can be against us? The cry of her heart is to be close to God so that He can restore her fallen being (psalm 23:2-3).
*5 Pressures Related To Spiritual Crisis:
1. Other believers reject us.
2. Shame from sin.
3. Being overworked.
4. Distracted from your first love.(Jesus)
5. Serving Jesus from a distance.
1:8; If you do not know, O fairest among women, follow the footsteps of the flock and feed your little goats beside the shepherds tents.
If you do not know: John 14:26; 16:13. The Spirit of truth, the helper, the Holy Spirit of God will guide you in all things.
Fairest: Beautiful; Though others see you for your past darkness, Jesus see's you as beautiful. Philipians 1:6: Being confident of this very thing, that He who has began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (psalms 138:8).
Follow in the footsteps of the flock: Comitment to the Lord. Following the path laid out for us by the Lord will help us defeat the temptations of all emotional things that lead us toward sin. Our emotions will be focust on the goodness and the severity of the knowledge of God.
Little goats: Comitment to ministry.
Shepherds tents: Comitment to Spiritual authority.
* The Lord is saying. If You do not Know oh beautiful one, come and seek me out with the sincerity of your heart. For the Holy Spirit will guide you. Your not alone in this, my desire is for you. Commit yourself to the Lord. From there, commit yourself to ministry and to Spiritual authority over your life. Matthew 6:33; Seek first the kingdom of heaven and all things will be added to you.
1:9; I have compared you, my love. To my filly among Pharoah's chariots.
My love: Affrimation.
Filly: Horse. Strength. Egypt had some of the most glorious horses on earth. out of them they picked the very best horses to pull Pharoah's chariot.
The Sweet Perfume Of God's Personality: Luke 15:20
1. The father saw him.
2. He felt compassion.
3. He ran toward his son.
4. He embraced his son
5. He kissed his son.
* Jesus is saying; My heart yearns for you, i have forgiven you your trespass My love. He is speaking affrimation to us so that we will enter in to a trust with Him. He is telling us, even now, that we are beautiful and strong in His sight.
1:10; Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments. Your neck with chains of gold.
Cheeks: Emotions. We wear our emotions on our cheeks.
Ornaments: Skillfully made(psalm 139:13-16). God has skillfully wrought a yes in our spirit. That yes in our spirit moves the heart of God.
Neck: Self will into submission.
Chains: Royal authority.
Gold: Divine charactor.
* Jesus continues to affirm her. Telling us that we are beautiful. Our actions toward Him cause His heart to move with joy. He is comparing us to the attributes of His nature. We were created to be intiment with our creater.
1:11; We will make you ornaments of gold, with studs of silver.
We: Trintity. God, Jesus,and Holy Spirit. Three in one.
We will make: The finished work of the Cross. As promissed.
Onaments of gold: Speaking of her charator being made Christ like. A lovesick worshipper of God.
Silver: Redemption.
With studs of silver: God will redeem her, and then use her to redeem others. As well as being equiped to deliver others.
* I don't believe this is the daughters of Jerusalem speaking here. The language still coincides with Jesus affirming His bride. The Holy Spirit is speaking of the promise of His redemption to the bride. The promise that He will make us Christ like. And the ability to walk in the authority of Christ. A burning and shining light to all.
